Every American should be able to retire in dignity.
Every Oklahoman benefits from the hard work and service of our firefighters, teachers and police officers. That’s why we need to make sure that Oklahomans who go into public service can count on a secure retirement.
But last year, in an effort funded by out-of-state special interests, politicians attacked public workers and privatized their retirement savings, a move that threatens to retire hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans into poverty. Even worse – it could cost taxpayers billions of dollars in expensive transition fees.
Who benefits? The Wall Street banks that got the contracts to gamble with our public workers’ retirement accounts.
Deep-pocketed lobbyists are more powerful than ever, and growing inequality hits retirees especially hard.
The good news is that we can fix this by ending sweetheart deals to the wealthiest and the powerful. We can make government and our budgets work for working people again. Oklahoma will be stronger when the workers we count on—firefighters, teachers, nurses, corrections officers and other public servants—can count on a secure retirement.
